Where exactly does AirFrance Airbus A330 plane carrying 228 people traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris go when it disappears over the Atlantic Ocean? That’s the mystery plaguing the aviation world and families of those 228 people aboard still today.
Word has it that after Flight 447 took off last night, it may have run into a thunder and lightning storm, and perhaps was struck by lightning, leading to a possible electrical problem aboard. As of 9:30 AM ET this morning, officials say the plane is no longer in the air and could be in the ocean. The Brazilian air force is looking for signs of the plane off that country’s coast. Government officials this morning are saying there’s likely no hope for survivors.
French minister Jean-Louis Borloo ruled out a terror attack or hijacking, saying the flight likely just had an accident. "By now it would be beyond its kerosene reserves so unfortunately we must now envisage the most tragic scenario," he said. "We can fear the worst."
